The Association of Charity Lotteries in the European Union (ACLEU) was recently established to promote the model of a charity lottery in the European Union. The Association of Charity Lotteries in the European Union was officially launched in March 2008 in the European Parliament.
Three of the main characteristics of charity lotteries are:
- Primary aim of the lottery it to raise funds for civil society
- A large share of turnover goes to charity
- Funding is not earmarked
